The Maxton Historical Society was an outgrowth of the Maxton, NC Centennial in 1974.  The Society seeks to collect, preserve, and disseminate  information about the Town of Maxton, its history and its citizens.  It sponsors a yearly dinner meeting and publishes a newsletter, The New Scottish Chief .

In the historic Gilbert B. Patterson Law Office, the Society maintains a museum and archives.  The displays cover the educational, political, and economic history of Maxton, as well as showcasing the lives and works of some of her citizens.  The archives of various families, instutitions, and events in our town are cataloged and available to the public for research.

The museum is open every Sunday from 2:00 p.m until 4:00 p.m. or by appointment.  Limited research is done by mail.
