APRIL, 2008

The Annual Dinner and Meeting was held april 19th at Abigail's II.  There were approximately thirty of us in attendance. Our speaker was Ms. Arleen Fields, archivist and reference librarian at Methodist University.  She has just digitized the Carolina College Collection and gave us an overview of the history of the institution, complete with photos.  The entire collection, including scrapbooks and photo albums is available on their website. (see link on our homepage).  This has been a massive undertaking and one which highlights Maxton "in the good ole days".  Next year's speaker will be member Tom Wagg, who is the archivist at St. Andrews Presbyterian College.  He will speak on PJC.  Mark your calendars now.

Our seven new plaques are in place.  Drive by and admire.  They are: the Maude Croom house on McCaskill, the Carter house on McCaskill, the Williams house on N. Elm, the A.J. McKinnon house on N. Florence, the H.S. McKinnon house on N. Florence, the Hill house on McCaskill, and the Williams house on N. Florence.  At this rate, we will soon have all our homes marked.

Work continues on the cataloging and preservation of the various collections.  Hopefully, we will soon have photos of the objects in our catalog.

See you soon!
